Will I thought I would try this blogging,  never done this before so I hope I am doing this right! I started sewing along time ago,so you would think I would be very advanced. I would have been if I had found my passion for quilting back then. Mostly ,I was interested in it because my mom sewed. Mostly clothing and some household items. I remember here first sewing machine was a old black singer with the gold filigree paint on the sides of it. Then later on, she got herself a Athena 2000 was a big deal back then I believe it was on of the first programmable sewing machines.
I sewed now and then ,when I  was pregnant with my first son in 78, I made my first attempt to sew a quilt. It was a huge teddy bear shaped quilt. I started it but cannot remember if I finished it! LOL Then I made some what I call blanket quilts, just sandwiched two large pieces of material with batting and sewed it up and then hand tied it down.  I knew nothing of 1/4 inch seams or patterns,or much of anything else to do with quilting. Then I stopped sewing for a long time. This had all been back when I was in my teens and 20's. I didn't pick up sewing again till I was in my forties and bought a Berninia embroidery sewing machine. Had all the bells and whistles cost me over 5 grand by the time I walked out of the quilt shop with all the extra accessories!  They saw me coming! Used it all about 4 times before it was destroyed in a house fire. I was heart broken and gave up. About 5 yrs ago I started thinking about sewing again. Went out a got a Brother  and started learning how to make quilt blocks and making the family quilts. Still was a now and then thing. But about 2 yrs ago something just finally clicked and suddenly I was seeing quilting in a different like and started reading and learning more about quilting and then of course the fabric obsession hit me and my stash of fabric grew from a small tote of fabric to 4 huge totes full plus fabric in 3 stacker's and a cabinet full of fabric!!
I am learning alot about sewing straight seams and what finally helped was getting a 1/4 inch foot to help. I consider myself now a advanced beginner . I am still learning and trying to improve my skills. I had been sewing a little Brother my son bought me from Walmart and its a nice machine not a lot of options but does a good sewing job. But, this Christmas I was given a Brother SE 400 and holy smoke! I am in love with this machine and it so quite and has so many stitches and embroidery options on it,will take a while to get it all learned!
